(FEB. 2011) FOODTANKERS HAS ENTERED phase two of the roll-out of Transvision Fleet Planner, thereby extending the use of the system from the Nordic countries to the rest of Europe.
FoodTankers distributes liquid and semi-liquid foodstuffs to the European food industry. The company, which has headquarters in Sweden and regional offices in Poland, Hungary and the Netherlands, owns and operates approximately 130 tanker trucks equipped with the latest technology. Since 2008, FoodTankers has been part of Imperial Logistics International GmbH, a leading global provider of customised logistics solutions.
Before the extended roll-out, Transvision Fleet Planner was primarily deployed in the transport of oils and fats in the Nordic region, but in this second phase of the project it will be used for distributing all sorts of liquid foods across all of Europe, such as wine, beer, milk, juice, cocoa and sugar.
Before being rolled out, Transvision will make enhancements to the system in order to make the planning of long trips even better. In the Nordic countries, trips typically take 1-3 days, whereas European trips can last as much as a month before the drivers return home.
Among these enhancements are the following:
- One concerning the scheduling of washing activities according to cleaning station costs and opening hours (trailers often have to be cleaned before new loads).
- Another relating to the planning of long-distance ferries, taking for instance departure times and durations into consideration.
- A new resource change planning feature which meets FoodTankers’ need to change vehicles and drivers en route during the loading of trailers, by taking account of breaks, driving time regulations and various qualifications.
Transvision is pleased to embark on this new phase of our working relationship with FoodTankers and looks forward to assisting the company in future endeavours.
