(NOV. 2006) STATOIL, THE MARKET LEADING oil company in Scandinavia, has decided to expand its Transvision oil and gasoline planning solution with a newly developed Transvision onboard computer client.
The vision behind the new OBC is to improve Statoil’s realtime planning and to facilitate better integration of the onboard computers with their Transvision planning solution. The mobile units will be a real client on the planning server – like the planners in the office – through GPRS and sharing of the data model.
The OBCs on Statoil’s vehicles operate on the same data platform as the Transvision planning system which eliminates the need for data conversion to third party software.
To increase usability, the OBCs have a build in unique navigation system that navigates on the basis on Statoil specific adjustments of restrictions to the road network, such as temporarily closed roads and weight restrictions on selected roads.
The mobile application is installed on a JTL tablet PC equipped with a Windows XP operating system and furthermore integrated with a pumping volume measuring system from Sam System.
The implementation of the new OBCs is now in the pilot phase and the final roll-out is planned for April of 2007.
