(APR. 2007) AFTER A PERIOD OF using Transvision Route Planner for master route planning, Schulstad Denmark has now expanded the solution with Transvision Fleet Planner to handle the real-time planning and execution.
For more than 125 years Schulstad has supplied the Danes with bread. Throughout the years, Schulstad has grown to be one of the most important and well-known Danish bakery companies delivering bread to thousands of stores all over Denmark.
Schulstad added Transvision Fleet Planner to the planning system suite with the intention of obtaining an optimal connection between the master plans made by Transvision Route Planner and the daily operation.
On a quarterly basis Schulstad optimises their master distribution routes in Transvision Route Planner. Furthermore, these routes are changed and optimised on a regular basis due to ever changing delivery volumes and the customer base.
The optimised master routes are sent to Transvision Fleet Planner that takes over the operational planning, execution and monitoring. When the actual order volumes and new ad-hoc or cancelled orders are known they are imported to the system. Afterwards, the master routes are consequence calculated to display the time and capacity utilisation of each route.
Thereby the system will be able to assist the drivers and warehouse personnel in making small changes to the plan by swapping orders between the routes while keeping the overall master structure in place. This way, Schulstad will avoid un-even capacity utilisation per unit and limit the need to in-source external trucks for spot routes.
In the second phase of the implementation Transvision Fleet Planner will be linked directly to the trucks’ on-board-computers that will display the daily routes. The on-board-computers will also facilitate electronic positioning and status exchange, allowing Transvision Fleet Planner to monitor the operation and automatically warn about delays to planners, drivers and customers.
