(MAY 2009) THE DANISH INDUSTRIAL laundry company Alba has purchased Transvision Route Planner in order to optimise distribution and reduce planning time. On top of this, Transvision Route Planner will contribute to Alba’s ambition of reducing mileage for the benefit of the environment.

Alba is a well-known Danish industrial laundry, which cleans and leases out workwear and other textiles. The company deals with four major areas: Working clothes, cloths, mats, and linen.

Alba’s vehicles provide nationwide delivery and pickup service, operating within an 8-week cycle in which the customers have different service day patterns. One of the major reasons why Alba chose Transvision Route Planner is that the system is capable of handling frequencies and visit patterns in combination with advanced service day assignment and route optimisation.

At Alba, the time of delivery and pickup varies considerably from customer to customer, depending on the accessibility and general circumstances of each customer location. Transvision Route Planner is perfectly able to handle this variability.

However, other variables must be taken into account as well. For instance, mats collected for cleaning during autumn and winter take up much more space in the vehicles due to these seasons’ high level of precipitation. Therefore, additional transport is needed at this time of year, which makes it somewhat difficult to plan distribution manually. But with Transvision Route Planner’s range of tailor-made plans for different periods during the year, it becomes much easier for Alba to carry out seasonal planning.
